The incredible journey and the heart ache.........an exhausting day..............
We are so grateful and filled with joy.......old Miss Verna is home this morning safe and sound.....
There is something to be said for small town america. With one phone call to this farmer and that farmer. A cup of coffee and a conversation about the weather and a neighbors lost dog. She is found...Living in rural america can still have its positive.
The call came yesterday and we could hardly breath, while waiting to find out if the dog that limped in to a farm, miles away was ours. How could it not be her...who else has a lost old black dog on the same day, right?
It is her! It is her!
We are overjoyed, so very grateful.....
She is well, she is hurting, and exhausted. But from this point on whatever happens to her, at least she is home.
She is a dog that never leaves the yard. When we go to the woods she doesn't ever go, unless she is on the Polaris. She suffers from bad arthritis in both back hips and can barely get around. So for us to have her missing, was impossible....
As the neighbors came together to search for her, the talk began to piece the details of what may have happened to her, come together. But I think in the end we will never really know..
The one moment in our day, that makes you shake your head and smile. Is the land we have is leased to a group of hunters that live more than an hour away, they arrived early that morning to walk the land. They walked for miles knowing that my Dad and Mom couldn't. They looked in all the awful traps set on a neighbors land, they called to the river flowing by. Still nothing, but stayed with them until the call came. For people to take time out of their lives and come together for an old crazy dog really says something....About small town....
This morning she is barely moving, she is hurt pretty bad, but we've moved her bed in the sun. We can only hope the sun warms her bones and heart to heal. It is amazing the importance a pet can be to a family, ours are family...she belongs with us and we belong with her.....we are blessed.................
